Comprehension involves responding to, interpreting, analysing and evaluating texts by using metacognitive comprehension strategies including visualising, making connections, predicting, questioning, summarising and monitoring.
The "Super Six" is a fun way of remembering the key strategies that we, as effective readers, use to understand texts that we are reading, viewing and/or listening to. The aim in explicitly teaching these strategies to our students is not to create students who successfully ask questions or visualise sections of a text...the goal is to effectively (and evntually automatically) use these strategies to support a deep comprehension of any text.
What great resources, ideas or successes have you had explicitly teaching comprehension?
